Training the mind to open up to other possibilities.

It is amazing how much less we directly interact with each other these days. The art of small talk on the public annals of transport have deceased to an almost deadly silence, muted  speech comes into play,I was pleased to see that so many people were reading books on the train, that was the number one pastime,no newspapers,a variety of books, serious books, not many smiles and no sudden outbursts of laughter, funny thing I noticed that nearly all the viewers' still kept their sunglasses on while reading. It's Australia, and it's bright and it is summer, but I still kind of feel it's all part of the barrier to the acceptance and acknowledgement of a humankindness. Those that were not reading had earphones locked into  position, all switched directly onto the ipod, iphone, tablet, laptop, others prefered to just text with fingertip speed ,only three people I noticed that were actually content, sitting ,enjoying the ride, and taking occasional glances around the compartment, everybody else was plugged in, doing their own thing , the only voice I heard on the train ride from Mosman Park to Perth was the computerised voice reminding us of the name of the next station.I don't hark back to the days of old but I do remember a generation that was gifted with the ease of bringing things to life, the odd character that could bring a smile to your face.Suburbian morning trains, where the time slips away all too easily and the landscape goes by almost unnoticed. What ever happened to the days of dream time, staring out of the windows and allowing our minds just to drift. yeah, that one trip on the train seemed too much like a futuristic robotic society.Nobody spoke, everything was orderly, people were neat and tidy and the commute to work for them was probably just like any other day.
