handbook for dementia design

Design, build and inhabit.Input is one of the most valuable factors to consider before architects lay thought to design.Inside information is required.I work in a Dementia, purpose built, twenty bed facility that will be ten years old next year, and most of the behaviors we are experiencing at the moment can be put down to the basic design of the building, better design would almost eliminate the majority of behaviours.Large communual dining area,do not work! Crowds create chaos, space is required.Everything from the colour of the walls, the lighting, the furniture, cupboards that slam shut and create unwanted noise affects the wellbeing of the inhabitants of the building...........this is an ongoing work, and everyday I hope to add pieces to this puzzle.
